My book! My book!

Yes! I wrote a book. Six years ago I wrote a book called CALMS: A Guide to Soothing Your Baby with my friend and colleague Debby Takikawa. It was a short and sweet little gem that gave parents a clear understanding of how to help their little one’s during the challenging moments.

Over the years Debby and I realized there was more to say, more to share—so we’ve re-written, re-designed and re-released CALMS. And it’s available now!

This improved and expanded 2nd edition carries the same nuggets of wisdom, in the same simple clear format, but includes MORE help with each step and MORE beautiful photos. CALMS delves deeply into the ways that communication with your infant have a positive effect on early brain growth and relational development. We wrote this so it would be clear, easy to read and to-the-point. I am especially excited about how the new edition is bound in a useful “lay-flat binding” that will allow you to read when hands are busy. Super cool.

I know I’m biased, however, I’m going to tell you, straight up, this book is brilliant! And it gives new parents (and honestly, parents with children of any age) a simple, easy and very effective guide to being with little people in loving, compassionate and helpful ways. Who doesn’t want that? Order your copy (or multiple copies), today.

  • GREEN BAY, Wis. — Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers showed how dangerous they can be when they're at full strength Saturday night, overwhelming the Minnesota Vikings 24-10 in an NFC wild-card game that was never really close.
  • Reed, 34, has considered retirement after each of the last couple of seasons, and with his contract due to expire at season's end, it may be a natural stopping point for the ball-hawking safety. But after Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, Reed insisted that his sole focus was on next week's game at Denver, not his future.
  • You have to wonder how this game would have turned out if Robert Griffin III hadn't tweaked his knee in the first quarter and erased any chance he had of being effective under center. Or if Redskins coach Mike Shanahan had turned the offense over to Kirk Cousins, who has shown in the past that he can win games (as a backup and as a starter). Instead, Griffin might have hurt himself even worse in the fourth quarter on a botched snap, and Cousins had little chance to overcome a 10-point deficit.
  • The Dallas Cowboys fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. Ryan was let go after the Cowboys missed the postseason for a third consecutive year. His firing ends a two-year tenure with the team. Under Ryan's tutelage, the Cowboys ranked among the league's top 20 total defenses, placing 14th in 2011 but slipping to 19th in 2012, perhaps in large part as a result of injuries to many of Dallas' key defensive players. Ryan becomes the second casualty of the Cowboys' coaching staff. Running backs coach Skip Peete was fired on Monday.
